The theme of the exercise “Environmental Sustainability for Tomorrow’s Economy” emphasized the importance of forests and trees as invaluable resources for sustainable environment. Trees play a pivotal role in providing sources of clean water, habitats for biodiversity and mitigating climate change effects among many other benefits.

AGF has been keen to foster Climate Finance through one of its products – the Green Guarantee Facility. The Green Guarantee is a unique product that assists financial institutions to partially cover the risks associated with financing SMEs with green investments and thus enable them increase their portfolio in that asset class.

Speaking at the event, AGF CEO noted that an increasing number of SMEs have ventured into business that tackle climate change effects. He urged SME lenders to increase their lending towards these SMEs.

The event was presided over by Kiambu County CEC in charge of Water, Environment and Natural Resources -David Kuria who noted that the County needs one million tree seedlings per year up from the current 800,000.

Attended by more 300 people, the planters including some of AGF Partner Financial Institutions (Ecobank, Musoni, Credit Bank, Family Bank, CBA & SIMA) each planted 50 trees, totaling to  more than 10,000 trees.

The exercise had a great income generation impact on community as local farmers provided the seedlings whereas local youth were involved in digging and preparation of the planting site.

AGF also donated a cooking stove and three-in-one printer to Munyaka Primary School.

AGF’s Corporate Social Responsibility aims to contribute towards community development, social responsibility and environmental responsibility.

African Guarantee Fund is grateful to the society for their support in the organisation’s growth and development. We believe that no organization can make sustainable development without patronage from the society.
